Reno Jazz Festival
The "with it" place to be in April is Reno. For more than 36 years, the University of Nevada Reno has been hosting
one of the Country's largest jazz competitions, including vocal ensembles, big bands and jazz combos, all competing for highly coveted honors in their
categories. There's nothing like competition to bring out some of the best jazz on planet earth! This three-day event features all day competitions,
clinics and nightly jazz concerts.
Attending the Reno Jazz Festival is like placing emphasis on the love of life. It's easy to do for anyone who loves both. It is
the very idea of love of jazz that brings people to the Reno Jazz Festival. First held in 1962, the Reno Jazz Festival has built up a well-earned reputation
as one of the best jazz festivals anywhere. Growing in size and stature over the years, the Reno Jazz Festival ranks as one of the largest and most
vibrant of its kind in the U.S., attracting more than 10,000 participants and guests in 2007. Hosted by the University of Nevada, Reno, the festival
welcomes some of the best jazz students, musicians and music teachers in the US to perform at this popular festival, drawing hundreds of school bands
(junior high to college) from Nevada, California, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. A number of concerts, shows and workshops take place during the festival
and the event closes on the final day with the weekend ’s finale: the Festival Showcase and Awards Ceremony.
The 2008 Reno Jazz Festival promises once again to bring together some of the finest jazz students, musicians and educators in the United
States. Thanks, again, to all those who cosponsor this event,  especially
Maytan Music Center, Nevada Arts Council, City of Reno, Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, and Extended Studies at the University of Nevada,
Reno.
